Yesterday I went to the Freedom Blues Fest with Mandy's dad Jerry, his friend Daniel, and little Brian. It was really cool. The food there was good, especially the chili. I had a cajun beef kabob that I am certain killed some of my taste buds. I also got to ride on the train around the field four times with Brian. Anyway, the music there was really good, and pretty diversified, too. There were two really good acts. The first of these was Toni Lynn Washington, a total blues diva and a great performer, too. The other one was this group called Lil' Brian and the Zydeco Travelers. They played this new kind of music called, you guessed it, zydeco, which is like a combination of funk, disco, and creole, if you can picture that. Anyhow, the band had a sit-down drum set, a bass guiter, an electric guitar, a washboard, and an accordian. It was great stuff- it reminded me of Moxy Fruvous's cover of "Dancing Queen" (dance music featuring an accordian). I wish I'd had money with me because I would have bought some CDs. There was also this really cool bracelet and ring thingie that I wanted to get. Oh, well, maybe I'll see another one somewhere or I'll just try to make one or two.

Tonight we went out to eat at this great place called the Pine Crest Inn. It was a total redneck place but the food was out of this world. I said to myself, "Where at home could I go to have a great steak dinner AND hear 'Whole Lotta Love' [by Led Zeppelin] on the juke box?" Anyway, before we went there we stopped at this scenic lookout point. It was little clearing over a cliff that looked out onto the surrounding farms and the mountains in the distance. It was foggy so everything seemed to recede into the mist beyond. The wind was blowing softly and I felt like I was on the highest point above everything else. It made me miss everyone and I felt more alone than I have in a long time. I could just picture Preston standing there beside me, telling me I'm more beautiful than the view, because I just know he'd say something like that. And then, in the same moment, I thought of Ben #2, and I could picture him pretending to push me over the cliff and then catching me in his arms and laughing.

I think I need to stop thinking for a while.
