![]() Wednesday, Sept. 04, 2002 - 12:53 p.m. Things I have learned thus far in college: 1. Organization is the key to running a successful dorm room. In other words, remember where you put your stuff- I haven't seen my sunglasses since Thursday. 2. Take every opportunity to meet people, wherever you go. You won't remember everyone's names, but you'll always have someone to sit with at the next boring mandatory meeting. 3. Sing at karaoke. It's a great way to get attention, and even if you suck at singing people will remember that you could laugh at yourself and have fun. 4. If you have noisy neighbors, retalliate by playing Happy Hardcore at top volume with your speakers turned towards their wall. 5. Don't be afraid to ask the technical advisors for help. They're really nice, particularly if you tell them you like anime. The 5 I had up in my room the other day really got a kick out of my desktop background. 6. Leave your door propped open when you're home. People just love dropping in. 7. If possible, get a cool roommate. Mine rocks. (Go Gigi!) 8. Talk to people, ask questions, and don't be shy. Lots of people you'll run into (particulary the freshmen) will be glad someone is giving them the time of day, or asking them for it. I know I always am. 9. When talking to people about yourself, tell them what music you like, even if you think they've never heard of the group, because there's a good chance that they've not only heard of the group but they're also the president of the local fan club. 10. Chicken flavored ramen is really good with Chinese deep-fried pork-in-a-jar. And most importantly, 11. Never take a chem placement exam when you've got a mild hangover and you had only 3 hours of sleep the night before- particularly if 2 of those hours were spent sleeping (or trying to sleep) next to a guy who snores *very* loudly. For all you college students, soon-to-be college students, and those of you who have been there and done that, I hope you enjoyed my little lesson for today.
